Filadelfio Rafael Lucero

Filadelfio "Phil" Lucero, 87, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, was called to his eternal home in Heaven on September 10, 2026.

Phil was born on February 5, 1939, in Torreon, New Mexico, to Juan Augustine and Felicitas Lucero. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Theresa Lucero, who passed away in 2023 after nearly 61 years of marriage; his son, Vincent Lucero; his parents; and his sisters, Margaret and Lillian.

He is survived by his children and their spouses: Veronica Chavez (Ben Chavez), Edward Lucero (Ruby Mora), and Robert Lucero (Edward Mendoza); his grandchildren, Rachael Baca, Isaiah Chavez (Erin Chavez), and Joshuah Chavez (Samantha Chavez); his cherished great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Abraham, Timo, Azaria, and Carah; his sisters, Deluvina Lopez, Delora Cordova, and Debra Lucero; and his brothers, Leonard Lucero, Ramon Lucero, Leroy Lucero, and Gabriel Lucero.

Phil's Catholic faith was the foundation of his life. From an early age, he shared his gift of music by singing in the choir at San Jose Church. He devoted many years of service to the Knights of Columbus and was a proud member of La Sociedad de San Jose in Torreon, New Mexico, an organization in which his father and grandfather were also members. His faith remained a guiding force throughout his life and strengthened the bond he shared with Theresa. After retirement, they attended daily Mass together, finding joy and comfort in their shared devotion.

Music was one of Phil's lifelong passions and an important part of who he was. Inspired by his father, who played the accordion, Phil developed a love for music at a young age. He sang and played several instruments and enjoyed performing with his brothers, cousins, and friends. Some of his most treasured memories were made playing music alongside his son, Vincent, on the drums. He also loved "jamming" with his grandsons, Isaiah and Josh. Music brought him immense joy and provided a special way for him to connect with others.

Phil lived a life defined by hard work, dedication, and service. He was a veteran who proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, he worked at the VA Hospital, served as a police officer, held positions with the City of Albuquerque, pursued entrepreneurial ventures alongside Theresa, and ultimately retired from the United States Postal Service.

He enjoyed fishing and camping at lakes throughout New Mexico and enjoyed deep-sea fishing in California on many occasions. Together, Phil and Theresa had a special gift for bringing people together. They loved visiting family and friends, often arriving with pastries or donuts to share, turning ordinary visits into cherished moments of laughter, conversation, and companionship.

Phil leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and service. His kindness touched many lives, his music brought joy, and his love strengthened generations of family. Though he is gone from our sight, his spirit lives on in the memories, stories, and traditions he leaves behind.

A Rosary will be recited on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at 9:30 a.m., with a Mass to follow at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 5310 Claremont Ave. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110. Family and friends are invited to a reception celebrating Phil's life at Queen of Heaven Parish Hall following the Mass. Phil and Theresa will be laid to rest together at Mt. Calvary Cemetery later in the day.
