Amongst other campaigns, his unit was a critical component in the famed Philippine campaign which was the turning point for Allied victory in the Pacific. For acts of heroism while in combat, he was awarded the Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged and retired after 20 years of selfless service.
Not one to sit still, following retirement from the military, Gene pursued a second career with Albuquerque Public Schools. After dedicating 20 years with APS, he retired to his home where Gene found comfort in the simple pleasures of life while living with his late wife Adelida (Ida) of 43+ years in Adobe Acres. His final years were filled with lighthearted days and time spent with family.
His whole family carries a part of his character inside their hearts and he will always be remembered for his love of laughter and never shying away from making those around him smile.
