Eugene William Kenderdine passed away on March 28, 2026, at the age of 95. He was born in Houston, Texas, but spent most of his life in New Mexico. He is survived by his beloved wife, Phyllis Short Kenderdine; children, Shawn (George) Kenderdine, Melanie (Steve) Kenderdine, Paul (Brenda) Kenderdine, Charles DeWitt, and Elizabeth DeWitt; and sister, Lily Ann McLane. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Adam (Elke) Kenderdine, Joshua Kenderdine, Anna (Ricardo) Neira, and Victor Cary; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sydney and Matilda; his brothers, David and Arthur; his son, Russell; and his grandson, Nathan.
He was a lifelong optimist who had a creative and inventive mind, a quick sense of humor, and a great capacity for kindness and love.
Gene was a Mechanical Engineer at Sandia Labs for 36 years, where he held several patents, presented his work at NASA symposiums, and was given an award from Sandia Labs for recognizing his many inventions of unique signal mechanisms and their continual contributions to Stronglinks and nuclear weapon safety.
He enjoyed exploring New Mexico and traveling the world with Phyllis, as well as skiing, racquetball, debating politics and religion, and margaritas. He loved his family. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him and loved him. Gene requested that there be no services.
