Esther Angelina Luna (née Aceves), age 86, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2025, in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Born on October 11, 1938, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Esther lived a life filled with warmth, laughter, and unwavering love for those around her.
A proud graduate of Albuquerque High School's Class of 1957, Esther carried her cheerful spirit and encouraging nature into every chapter of her life. She was best known for the unconditional love and support she offered to everyone she encountered-whether a lifelong friend or a stranger met in passing. Her sweet personality and genuine care left lasting impressions on all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Esther shared a beautiful life with her devoted husband, Leopoldo P. Luna. Together they raised four sons, one of which preceded her in death, Edward. She is also preceded in death by brother Johnny and sister Martha. She is survived by her husband Leo, children Lawrence (Tina), John (Samaranthe), Charles (Sandra), Daughter-in-law Sharon, sister Theresa, grandchildren Kieran, Max, Ricky (Jen), Rachelle (Matthew), Nathanael (Taylor) and 11 great-grandchildren and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Through the years, their family journey took them to various places-including Texas and Spain-thanks to Leopoldo's service in the United States Air Force. These travels created cherished memories that enriched their lives and deepened their bond.
Esther had a remarkable ability to bring joy into everyday moments. She was known for her sense of humor and loved telling stories that would leave others smiling or laughing out loud. Her home was always open and welcoming; visitors could count on being greeted with something delicious from her kitchen and a warm cup of coffee-one of her daily pleasures.
She found delight in simple joys: savoring sweet treats like ice cream and candy, reading books that transported her to other worlds, watching classic films that reminded her of earlier times, and enjoying meals out with loved ones. Her love for animals was evident in the way she cared for them-feeding birds and squirrels each morning well into her later years-and walking her beloved mini poodle Daisy through the neighborhood where she became a familiar and friendly face.
Esther's legacy is one of kindness, humor, compassion, and an enduring zest for life. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
