Ervin Lee Smith

Ervin Lee Smith, age 89, passed away peacefully in his home on July 9, 2026. Born on December 20, 1936, in Choctaw, Oklahoma, he was the beloved son of Homer and Mary Smith. Ervin grew up alongside his brothers, Marvin and Jesse, and his sister, Eva.

In March of 1958, Ervin married the love of his life, Trudy Petermann. Together, they built a beautiful family and were blessed with three children: Robert, Michael, and Margaret. Ervin was also a proud and doting grandfather to Jacob Smith, Cary Vogt, and Camille Dearing.

A proud veteran, Ervin honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy from April 16, 1955, to November 8, 1957. Following his military service, he began a dedicated career in electronics. He initially worked with the Public Service Company, where he helped construct the power plant off Paseo Del Norte. Ervin later transitioned to Sandia National Laboratories, where he spent 30 years serving as a skilled Electronics Technician before reaching retirement. Ervin made his home in northwest Albuquerque, New Mexico. In his senior years, he shared a special bond with his oldest son, Robert, who lived with him. For nearly 28 years, they shared a unique father-son relationship of mutual care, where Ervin provided financial guidance and support, and Robert provided dedicated care and companionship during his father's final years. Ervin was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Outside of his professional life, he was an avid real estate investor, a lifelong fitness buff, and an enthusiastic traveler. His warmth, dedication to his family, and hard work will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at French Funerals - Westside, 9300 Golf Course Road NW, Albuquerque, NM 87114. Ervin will be laid to rest at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
