Ernesto "Ernest" Sanchez, age 87, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away on the morning of August 24, 2026, after a long and joyful life.

Born on February 1, 1939, in Albuquerque, Ernest was the son of the late Honorato B. Sanchez and Lugardita. He grew up in Old Town alongside his seven siblings, Thomas Henry, Emma, Phyllis, Daniel, David, Yolanda, and Carl. From an early age, Ernest demonstrated a generous, passionate, and outgoing spirit. His charm and vibrant sense of humor would go on to define his entire life.

Ernest attended Albuquerque High School, graduating in 1957, and earned a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from the University of Albuquerque, and a Master's in Industrial Hygiene from the University of Michigan. Professionally, he spent 43 years working as an Industrial Hygienist at Sandia National Laboratories. Known for his dedicated work ethic, valuable contributions, and warm demeanor, Ernest built lasting friendships with his colleagues and earned deep respect throughout his career.

On August 2, 1958, Ernest married his beloved spouse, Priscilla, in San Jose Church in Albuquerque. Together, they shared 68 wonderful years of marriage, building a life deeply rooted in family and resilience. As a parent to Christopher, Yvonne, Michael, Loretta, and Louis, Ernest was patient, fiercely encouraging, and endlessly supportive. His family was always his proudest achievement and his greatest source of joy.

Beyond his professional and family life, Ernest was a person of rich passions. He could often be found watching sports, tending to his yard, or spending cherished time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also loved traveling and visiting his favorite local restaurants. Ernest brought enthusiasm, warmth, and laughter to every room, and those who knew him best will forever remember his quick wit, humor, and magnetic personality.

Ernest is survived by his loving wife, Priscilla Sanchez; their children, Christopher, Yvonne, Michael, Loretta, and Luis, along with their families; his 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; his siblings; and a large, loving circle of extended family, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Honorato B. Sanchez and Lugardita; his brother, Thomas Henry Sanchez; and his sister, Yolanda "Yogi" Sanchez.

A celebration of Ernest's life will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at San Felipe de Neri Church in Old Town, located at 2005 N. Plaza St. NW, Albuquerque, NM 87104. Services will begin with a Rosary followed immediately by Mass, with interment to follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM. A reception will take place immediately following the graveside service at Prestige Event Center at 2019 5th Street NW 87102.
