Erika Engdahl

January 16, 1929 — November 30, 2023

Erika Gertrud (Lade) Engdahl, age 94 of Albuquerque died November 30, 2023 after a long illness.

Erika was born in Bremen, Germany and moved to the United States at age 19 after surviving World War II as a German citizen. At the close of the war, she married, moved to America, and began her new life. Her great passion was world travel and she toured five continents during her lifetime. She was an excellent photographer and has left behind a legacy of slides depicting her travels. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting and needlework of all types. She taught knitting at a local senior center and participated in many knitting groups.

She was predeceased by her husband Army MSgt Floyd D. Engdahl, her parents Otto Gustav Lade and Marie Hassler Lade of Bremen, her sister Luisa Lade Eickhorst, and her brother Willi Lade both of Bremen.

She is survived by her sons Steven F. Engdahl and wife Mary (Ellis); Donald F. Engdahl and wife Linda (Bair); three grandchildren Christopher R. Engdahl, D.O., Nicholas B. Engdahl Ph.D. both of Idaho, and Sarah M. (Engdahl) Gauntt, BSN, OCN of Oregon. She was exceptionally proud of her family and their accomplishments.

There will be no visiting hours or funeral services. Those wishing to remember Erika may make contributions in her memory to Meals on Wheels of New Mexico.
