Emiliano Saiz, Jr., 97, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, December 28, 2023. He is preceded in death by Theresa Martha (Baca) Saiz, his wife of 71 years, and is survived by their children, Jude Lorraine Rudder, Dr. Michael Saiz, Dr. Martin Raymond Saiz, Daniel Saiz, Mark Saiz, John Saiz, and Joseph Saiz. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Emiliano was born and raised in Alameda on Valentine's Day, 1926 and was the last surviving sibling among his seven sisters, including Piedad Sandoval, Louise Alvarado, Della Montoya, Margaret Baca, Edna Baca, Charlotte Ortiz, and Alvita Chavez. He often shared fond memories of growing up in the rural North Valley and his travels around the world.
Emiliano was a World War II combat veteran and served in the Army Infantry between May,1944 and June 1946. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal, for heroism in action near Schweinfurt, Germany, among other military honors. Upon his return from military service, Emiliano worked at the U.S. Post Office and retired after 25 years. He then became the real estate broker for the Archdiocese of Santa Fe and facilitated the move of St. Pius High School to what was then the University of Albuquerque.
Emiliano led his family by example, instilling a strong work ethic, demonstrating humility, self-reliance, and genuineness. He was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, loved to read, and had an infectious laugh that everyone loved.
A mass will be held on February 10, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Risen Savior. A rosary will precede the mass, beginning at 9:30 a.m. A graveside service, along with military honors, will be held immediately following the mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
