Elizaida Esquibel Mascarenas Martinez passed away peacefully at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, January 19, 2024. She was 90 years old, and heaven has a new angel. Her three children, Diane Perez, Anthony Mascarenas, and Debbie Larivere were gratefully by her side throughout her passing.
Elizaida or Ellie as she was known to her family an friends was pre-deceased by her first husband, Ivan J. Mascarenas and her second husband, Remigio RD Martinez as well as her brothers, Margarito and Ralph and her sister, Eleanor. Throughout her life Ellie firmly believed that she would be reunited with her loved ones in heaven. Those of us who are left behind will be a little lonelier without her, but also look forward to joining her later in heaven.
In addition to her three children, Ellie is survived by Diane's husband, Fred Perez; Anthony's wife, Mary Mascarenas; and Debbie's husband, John Larivere; her grandchildren, Adrian, James, Amy, Alicia, Joyelle and Matthew; her great-grandchildren, Joseph, Isidro, Jade, Tyliah, Fernando, Ysabella, Hope Marie, Kyle, Corey, Kevin, Trinity and Addyson, Nehemiah, Shia, Angel; and her great-great-grandchildren, Levi, Lillian, Adrian, Vicente, Maverick, Ellie Mae, Nova and Luna as well as many other extended family
Ellie was a native New Mexican who lived in Northern New Mexico for most of her life, other than when she traveled to various states and other countries with her husband Ivan who was in the Air Force. After Ivan's retirement they made their home in Rio Lucio, New Mexico where she spent most of her remaining life. Eleven years after Ivan's passing in 1984, she met and married her second husband and remained there for most of her remaining years.
In her younger years, Ellie was a home economics instructor and a teacher's aid for the Penasco School System. She loved traveling and enjoyed a day at the Casino where she was a very lucky lady. When she lived in Rio Lucio, she particularly enjoyed weekend visits with her family and friends who visited her often.
Ellie will most be remembered by her family and friends for her wise counsel and honest feedback. Her best advise was "To forgive freely and to love others more than yourself." She will be missed. May she rest in peace.
