Elizabeth (Liz) Duran, born on March 30, 1947, in Albuquerque, peacefully began her eternal journey on January 23, 2026 after a long illness of heart disease and pulmonary hypertension. Liz was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, niece, aunt, and sister-in-law. She lived a simple and quiet life with her husband, Joe and family. Liz enjoyed gardening and attending to her many chickens over the years. She loved cooking green chili, red chili, beans, fresh tortillas and feeding her family and friends, and baking biscochitos. She cherished her many outings of eating and shopping with her daughter, Veronica.
Liz is survived by her daughter, Veronica Montano and husband, Richard; son, Eddie Gonzales; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two godsons; one goddaughter; siblings, Charles and Viola Chavez and family, Steven Chavez, Ana Washburn and family, Joan and Ernest Navarrete and family, and Claire Chavez; and in-laws and family. She was preceded in death by her mother, Emma Chavez; father, Jacob Chavez; sister, Barbara Cordova; brothers, David and Richie Chavez; niece, Sacha Washburn; mother-in-law, Natalie Duran; father-in-law, Louie Duran; and brother-in-law, Manuel Duran.
Her Life Celebration will begin with a visitation Friday, February 6, 2026, 9:00 a.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 9:30 a.m. A Funeral Service will follow at 10:00 a.m. at FRENCH – University. Elizabeth will be laid to rest at Pajarito Cemetery. The family invites everyone to a reception following the burial at FRENCH – University Reception Center.
