Elena P. De la Torre(Galaviz) passed away on August 4, 2026. Nena was 91 years old but young at heart! She was a woman of faith who dearly loved our Lord and her family! She was a talented artist who designed and made beautiful stain glass windows and mosaics, sewed, crocheted and took pride in her home, never to boast but to show God that she was always grateful for the things she was blessed with. Nena came from very humble beginnings; she was born on February 18, 1935, in El Paso, TX in the middle of the Great Depression. But she and her late husband Art proved through hard work, perseverance, and optimism that the American Dream is possible for anyone!
Later in life after years of hard work and living frugally, they enjoyed the fruits of their labor and traveled throughout the world. Not bad at all for a guy and a gal from a little corner of Texas called El Paso.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Aurelio E De La Torre. They were married for 64 years. She is survived by her sons Richard (Laura De La Torre Tarango) and Lawrence De la Torre, and daughters Julie Gonzales (Horacio Gonzales) and Christine McNamara (Michael McNamara). Grandchildren: Naomi Olivia (Libby) De la Torre, Kristian De La Torre, Amanda Pacheco, Heather Rojas (Rich Hardin), Justin Rojas (Aimee), Sydney Mathis (Brian), and Mackenzie McNamara. Great grandchildren: Zeven, Orion, Jacobi, Jordan, Harley, and Charlotte.
A Rosary service and a funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, August 18 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church. 5712 Paradise Blvd. NW, Albuquerque 87114 reception will follow at the parish hall.
A separate memorial mass for family and friends in El Paso will be held on September 11th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in El Paso and an internment will follow at Restlawn Cemetary.
