Eleanor Black, age 79, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother was called to her eternal home with Christ on May 26, 2016 following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born in El Paso, TX, the daughter of George and Martha DuSang.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Jim and her parents. She is survived by her brother, George DuSang Jr. and wife Cece of Tacoma, WA; her daughter, Terri Othling and husband Steve of Albuquerque; her son Jim Black and wife Valerie of Taos; her grandchildren, Andy Othling and wife Megan, Jenny Thomas and husband Matt, Colton DeFee, John Nail and wife Teresa; great-grandchildren, Marshall, Vivian, Blake, and James Othling, Conor Thomas, and Cooper, Charlie and Penelope Nail; and her nieces and nephews.
Eleanor attended Austin High School and graduated from Texas Western in El Paso. After marrying Jim, they lived in Albuquerque, Dallas, TX, Pittsburgh, PA, eventually retiring in Taos and moving to Albuquerque a few years ago. Patient, kind and generous, Eleanor lovingly raised and nurtured her children while maintaining roles as an amazing seamstress, cook, gardener, soccer coach, tennis player, and occasional model. After she and Jim retired to Taos, NM, she became a skiing, fly fishing, gardening, and hiking enthusiast. Eleanor was a member of PEO in Albuquerque and Taos. She was also a member of the Ranchos de Taos Presbyterian Church and Christ the King Anglican Church in Albuquerque. In recent years, Eleanor and Grace, her visiting therapy dog, visited the Heading Home Men's Shelter and the North Ridge Alzheimer's Home where they spread love and brought smiles to many. Her loyal dog, Buddy, never left her side.
Eleanor's family would like to thank Dr. Purdy, Debbie and the whole staff at Hematology Oncology Associates for their compassionate care of Eleanor. We also greatly appreciate Presbyterian Hospice and their amazing care of Eleanor, particularly Dawn, Brenda and Dr. Vining. Most of all we want to thank Emily (our God sent angel) for her loving care of Eleanor.
