Edwina Mae Nelson, 92, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, entered eternal rest on the morning of November 15, 2025.
Born on May 21, 1933, in the busy city of Manhattan, New York, Edwina came into the world with a determined spirit and a sharp mind. She was always someone who carved her own path, and in 1973, that path led her across the country to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she began a new chapter with her two children. A strong and resilient woman, Edwina raised her children with love and pride, instilling in them the same strength and resolve she carried throughout her life.
Edwina retired working for a General Surgeon at Presbyterian Hospital in 1996. She embraced retirement by filling her years with travel to warm, sunny beaches and learning new things such as scuba diving, fencing, and tennis. She lived life fully, never hesitating to explore, learn, or enjoy simple moments with her family.
To her grandchildren, she was a constant source of light. Edwina kept a room overflowing with toys just for them, walked them to the neighborhood park, encouraged their growth, and expressed her pride in them constantly. Her love for margaritas, chocolate, and an occasional buffet became family lore, adding humor and sweetness to the memories she leaves behind. Many of her beloved recipes, especially her famous Christmas Danish Jam Bars will continue to be made in her honor, carrying forward her tradition.
Edwina was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Myrna Kiser, and her brother, John Kiser. She is survived by her children, Gregory (Janelle) Nelson and Melissa (Gregory) Maus; her half-sibling, Kathy Gerard Dixon; and her grandchildren, Derek Maus, Kristen (Jack) White, Madeline Nelson, and Morgan Nelson, all of whom will forever carry her legacy in their hearts.
Her family will forever cherish the profound impact she had on each of their lives. Edwina's sharp wit, kind spirit, and unwavering love will leave a lasting imprint, one that will continue to guide, comfort, and inspire all who knew and loved her.
