Edward J Barkocy

September 21, 1940 — August 3, 2023

Ed was born in Hazleton, Pennsylvania on September 21, 1940 to Andrew Barkocy and Anna Kraynick Barkocy.  He attended elementary and junior high school at St. John the Baptist receiving the American Legion School Award, which was for high qualities of honor, courage, scholarship, leadership, and service which he continued to have through his high school years at Central Catholic in Allentown and prepared him for college at University of Dayton and continued throughout his career.

In God's good plan, Ed took a job at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM where he eventually became a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff working as a Mechanical Engineering Technician in the Weapon Systems Group.  A co-worker of Ed, set Joyce Cuneo and Ed up on a blind date, and a couple of years later, Ed & Joyce married at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Albuquerque.  They had two wonderful sons, Timothy & Kevin. Ed supervised the building of their home and design of corner back yard.  This beautiful yard and home provided wonderful meals, holidays, and entertainment for children, friends, and grandchildren over the years. Joyce continued to make his favorite Czechoslovakian family recipes, which have continued to be passed down to the next generations as Barkocy holiday family traditions.

Ed's greatest love, next to God and his Catholic faith, was being with his family.  He was a devoted dad and husband, spending countless hours as an Indian Guide leader, playing baseball and basketball with Tim and Kevin, and building his magnificent German Christmas village with his Lionel trains.   Ed became a wonderful father-in-law to Marybeth and Laura and the best grandpa in the whole world to the grandchildren.  In his retirement, Ed was his grandkids' greatest sports fan and chaufer, and he and Joyce became world travelers.  He saved everything (including coin collection, key chains, stamps, baseball cards) because his sentimentality ran deep.

Ed is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 58 years, Joyce; his sons, Tim and Kevin; his daughter-in-laws, Marybeth and Laura; and his grandchildren: Brianna and husband, Matt Holden; Nathan and wife, Charity Barkocy; Emily Barkocy and fiancé, Connor Howe; and Jack Barkocy.  He was looking forward to his first great grandchild coming in November. His family and friends look forward to being reunited someday with him in heaven.
