Edith Lorraine (Davis) Lemke

July 15, 1947 — December 15, 2017

Edith Lorraine Davis Lemke, 70, passed away on December 15, 2017. The wife of Paul D. Lemke, mother to Terrill (Amy) of White Rock, NM; Holly Kidd (Michael) of Eagle Mountain, UT; and Troy (Julie) of Colorado Springs, CO. She was the devoted and beloved grandmother to 13 (soon to be 14) grandchildren, Kaitlin, Justin, Anna, and Tessa Lemke; Paul, Sarah, Hannah, and Matthew Kidd; and David, Hanna, Benjamin, Abigail, and Grace Lemke. She also had a great love for and devotion to her poodle Charlie who she always considered to be part of the family.

Lorraine was born July 15, 1947 in Los Alamos, New Mexico to Ernest L. and E. Gail Davis. She grew up in Santa Fe and spent one memorable year living with her family on the Zuni Indian Reservation. Lorraine graduated from Santa Fe High School and then attended New Mexico State University, where she met her husband Paul. They were married June 3, 1967 in Santa Fe and later sealed for time and eternity in the Los Angeles LDS temple. Lorraine and Paul recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. During those 50 years together Lorraine and Paul lived in New Mexico, Texas, California, Florida, Alabama, Idaho, and Colorado. Lorraine received a bachelor’s degree in home economics in 1970 from NMSU. Having a deep love of teaching and young people, Lorraine was an educator, teaching at the junior high and high school levels. She was a district Teacher of the Year in Florida in 1991. Lorraine suffered through many health afflictions in her adult life, particularly in her final years, and was a great example of perseverance and patience. Through it all she maintained a love for and interest in others. Lorraine had a passion for her children and grandchildren and exhibited great talent in working with porcelain, sewing, and other crafts. Many of the holiday decorations in each of her children’s homes are compliments of Mom/Grandma. In addition to a love for traveling, her poodle Charlie, and being with friends and family, Lorraine will be remembered for being able to walk on water if a snake was headed in her direction, being a travel agent for guilt trips for her kids, entertaining her grandkids with her Donald Duck voice, being an accomplished backseat driver, and soundly beating her grandkids in Uno Attack.

Lorraine was a devout and life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in numerous callings and capacities. Her knowledge of Heavenly Father’s plan for us all and her love for and testimony of Jesus Christ was a sustaining element in her life. In addition to her husband, children, and grandchildren, Lorraine is survived by her four siblings, Norman (Molly) Davis, Kathy Morrison, Dorothy (Gil) Hibbs, and Donna (Mike) Fluharty.

A visitation will be held Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 4500 Seven Bar Loop Road, Albuquerque, NM, followed by the funeral service at 10:00 a.m., Interment will follow at Rivera Memorial Gardens in Santa Fe, NM.
