Edith Davis

April 23, 1923 — February 9, 2016

Edith Pearl Newman Davis, 92, our beloved mother and grandmother, passed away on February 9, 2016. Edith was born near Waco, Texas on April 23, 1923. She was the youngest of five children, born to Ben Ford Newman and Edna Pearl Bradley Newman.
Edith graduated from high school in Ralls, Texas in the class of 1940 and then attended Texas Tech at Lubbock, where she received her bachelor's degree. She taught for a short time at Springlake-Earth in Texas. She later received her master's degree in elementary education at the Colorado State Teachers' College in Greeley, Colorado.
Edith relocated to fill a teaching position in 1947 at Hot Springs, New Mexico, which later became Truth or Consequences. It was there that she married Hugh (Pat) Davis in 1949. He preceded her in death in 1989. Edith was active for many years in the Methodist Church in Truth or Consequences. She liked to bowl and she played tennis well into her 70's. In 1986, Edith retired after 35 years of teaching. Most of her teaching years were spent teaching first graders to read. She was a sweet and gentle teacher who had an impact on many children's lives.
Edith is survived by her four children, Carol Davis Dominguez, Thomas N. Davis MD, Randall K. Davis MD, and Kerry L. Davis, and their families, which include 18 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Interment will be at the municipal cemetery in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. The family is planning a memorial service and celebration of her life to be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer's Association, www.alz.org.
