Douglas D. Freeby of Albuquerque, NM passed away in Albuquerque on May 11, 2015. Mr. Freeby was born in McPhearson, Kansas on May 8, 1932 to Wyman Joseph Freeby and Gladys Maria (Wilber) Freeby. Douglas served in the U.S. Navy for 30 years from November 5th, 1952 until December 1982, retiring at the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Douglas served in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. After retiring from the Navy, Douglas met and married his beloved wife, Emily Tapia of Albuquerque, NM on October 17, 1981. He is survived by his loving wife, Emily and her vast family who loved Doug. They were happily married and together for almost 35 years. Doug and Emily both enjoyed Hot Air Ballooning and being part of a chase crew for the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. Doug was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling and frequenting yard sales. Douglas graduated from Northeastern University in 1979 and was a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #401 and American Legion Post #99. Services will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at FRENCH - Wyoming. Burial services will be held at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on Tuesday May 19, 2015 at 2:15 p.m. in Santa Fe, NM.
