Dorothy M. (McCabe) Swanson

Dorothy M Swanson, resident of Albuquerque, formerly of Tucson, and originally from Chicago passed away on June 18, 2018 at the age of 90. She was born to Joseph and Olga McCabe in 1927, and was raised with her younger sisters Bonnie and Carol. She received her college degree at Chicago State College in Sight Saving and Elementary Education working as a teacher and later an Assistant Principal, in all a 30 year career as an educator.

She married the love of her life, Raymond F Swanson in 1950 (decd. In 2010), and spent 60 years together. Two daughters, Dr. Fran (Rob) and Meg (Scott) will miss her kindness and faith in God, her Country, and family values. She dearly loved her grandchildren Paul and Gina (Zach) and her adoring great grandchildren Tristan, Colby, and Creed who brought her immense joy! She also leaves behind her Brother-in-law, Gene, and 13 nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was a valiant woman of many talents, strong faith, and exemplary character. After retiring from teaching and moving to Tucson, she focused on art, becoming an accomplished painter in the use of oils, acrylics, water color, and colored pencil. She was a devoted Catholic, becoming a Eucharistic Minister and joined St Anthony’s Fraternity of Secular Franciscans.

Our family would like to thank her extraordinary caregivers, especially Comfort Keepers, Sandia View Spain and the many nurses and therapists who came to her side to provide a safe and nurturing environment with love and joy.

The family is requesting that memorial donations be made in lieu of flowers, to Sr. Jose’s Women’s Shelter at http://srjosewomensshelter.org. Sr. Jose, herself a valiant and passionate woman, was an inspirational humble servant of the Lord.
