Dorothy Spencer

August 12, 1945 — December 4, 2023

Dorothy Ann Spencer, also known as "Dot," died at her home in Los Lunas, New Mexico on December 4, 2023. She was 78 years old.

Dorothy was born in Sibley, Louisiana to Turner Mims and Fannie (Woods) Mims on August 12, 1945. She was the youngest sibling in her family.

She married Walter Spencer on July 24, 1967. They had one daughter together, Cindy Spencer. Dorothy and Walter were married for 56 years.

Dorothy enjoyed sewing, water skiing, traveling and camping. She liked working in her house and in her yard. Dorothy liked animals. At different times in her life, she had dogs, cats, rabbits, goats, horses, chickens and parakeets. Birds were her favorite. She like to put birdfeeders in the yard for the wild birds.

She worked first at the Albuquerque Public Schools and later at the Los Lunas Public Schools as a cafeteria worker. While at the Los Lunas Public Schools she moved up to manager for the snack bar. She liked working as a cafeteria worker because she was busy the whole time, and it allowed her to be home when her daughter, Cindy Spencer came home from school.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Walter Spencer, her mother, Fannie (Woods) Mims, her father, Turner Mims, her brothers Billy Mims and Lonnie Mims, and her sisters Syble Britt and Jessie Mims.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Cindy Spencer, her sister-n-laws Margaret Mims and Karen Spencer, her brother-n-law, Don Spencer, and his wife Adele (Gumley) Spencer; several nieces and nephews, and her dog Pumpkin.
