Dorothy Ann Cooper
Dorothy Ann, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away on November 13, 2024, two days after her 94th birthday. Dorothy and her twin brother Donald were born in Baldwin Park, California on November 11, 1930, to Inez and George Foster. Dorothy and her many siblings were raised in Lindrith, New Mexico, where she would later graduate from Lindrith High School as the valedictorian in 1948. Dorothy married her first husband Melvin Rainey in 1950 and was married to him until his death in 1968, she then married Billy Cooper in 1971 sharing 45 wonderful years with him until his death in 2016. Both of Dorothy's husbands made the military their careers enabling her to travel the world with them. Dorothy worked for Mountain Bell and later AT&T for many years until her retirement. Dorothy was an excellent cook and seamstress. Dorothy's biggest accomplishment in life was caring for people. She was a very kind, caring and giving person to everyone she met. She volunteered many hours at the VA hospital, homeless shelters, and many Methodist churches that she belonged to.
Dorothy was predeceased by her first husband, Melvin Rainey, her second husband, Billy Cooper, her son David Rainey, and grandchildren Star Rainey and Justin Edens. She is survived by three daughters Caroline Popescu (Mike), Catherine Hoisington (Mark), Nicole Jackson (Neal), grandchildren, Sunshine Smith (Craig), Brandon Rodarte (Rebecca), Ashley Mitchell (Evan), Eric Hoisington, Abigail Jackson, Jordan Jackson, and Olivia Jackson and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Darlene, Norma and Lois and many nieces and nephews.
A private family graveside service will be held at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe at a later date. Dorothy will be remembered for her love, compassion and dedication to family and friends.
