Doris (Kerby) Schum

Doris Schum, 88, beloved wife and mother, passed into eternal life on February 5, 2019. She is at peace now with her beloved husband, Bill; daughter, Paula; and grandson, Dave. She is survived by seven children, Mike (Kate), Steve (Tessie), Tim (Mary), Kathy (Fred), Susie (Harold), Lisa (Jeff), and Kevin; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Doris devoted her life to her family. She will be greatly missed.

Doris was born in La Junta, CO on August 29, 1930 to Earl and Mary Kerby. She had two beloved brothers, Bob Kerby (deceased) and Bill Kerby. In 1948, she married the love of her life, Bill Schum, at St. Mary’s Church in Colorado Springs, CO. In 1958, they moved to Albuquerque with their five children at the time and together they built a wonderful life in this city they came to call “home.” Doris was a lifelong homemaker, raising her large family and supporting Bill in his many work and community activities. Together they enjoyed traveling, gardening, spending time with their large extended family, decorating for holidays, and throwing big parties. They were married 66 years, until Bill’s death in January 2015.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 11, 2019, 10:00 a.m., at FRENCH – Wyoming. Friends may visit beginning at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. The pallbearers are Michael Schum, Stephen Schum, Timothy Schum, Kevin Schum, Kenneth Ferguson, Fred Becker, Harold McMillin, and Jeffrey Zank.

The family sincerely thanks the caregivers and staff at The Woodmark at Uptown for their compassionate care of our mother during the last 5 years and to High Desert Hospice during her final months.
