Doris A. (Polly) Pierce

Doris Pierce, 87, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2018 at Care Free Assisted living facility in Albuquerque.

Doris Pierce was born to Blanche and Al Blake on May 30, 1930 in Jonesboro, AR where she was raised and educated before coming to Albuquerque, NM. Doris and John E. Pierce were married in 1962 in Albuquerque where they made their home. Doris suffered for most of her adult life from the results of a stroke that paralyzed most of her left side as well as affecting her speech and short term memory. Prior to the stroke she worked as a cashier for Piggly Wiggly grocery stores, before scanners when cashiers had to memorize the price of all items in the store including weekly sales items, until her retirement. She was involved in her family life, her husband’s gas station and her sons’ community activities including being a Cub Scout Den Mother for several years. She enjoyed crafts, sewing, the outdoors and was known for helping the elderly. Doris was known to be very quick witted, funny, and never one to complain. She belonged to Christ and attended the Northeast Church of Christ.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband. Doris is survived by her sons, Deacon Jerry and wife, Donna Pierce of Carlsbad, NM, Victor (Tobey) and wife, Carol Pierce of Albuquerque; grandchildren, John Pierce and wife, Victoria of Kissimmee, FL, Jason and wife, Tiffany Pierce of Albuquerque, Amy and husband, William Blanchard of Edmond, OK, and Emily Pierce of Albuquerque; seven great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Pallbearers will be Jason Pierce, William Blanchard, Sid Golden, Jimmy Lloyd, Ron McCall and Mike Herrera. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Northeast Church of Christ, 11000 Paseo Del Norte NE, Albuquerque, NM 87122.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. at FRENCH – Lomas. Funeral Service celebrated Tuesday, January 23, 2018, 1:00 p.m. at FRENCH – Lomas. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd NE, Albuquerque.
