Donna Lynette Mascarenas, 76, of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2026, in her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born May 29, 1949, in Lamesa, Texas to James Cecil “JC” and Nell Scott and raised in Hobbs, NM with her sister, Sharon (& Tony) Telles. Where she worked with her father in his Dr. Pepper bottling company. After attending the University of the Southwest in Hobbs, she moved to Albuquerque where she met her beloved husband, Edward “Eddie” Mascarenas. They married in 1971 and over their 53 years of marriage raised their sons: Ian Mascarenas, Matthew (& Melanie) Mascarenas, Wade (& AnnRenee “Renee” and son, Juan Carlos “JC”), and Josh and Nicole Mascarenas. And survived by daughter, Anita Hutt. She has many living and deceased grandchildren and great grandchildren. Spending time with her family, close and extended, was her greatest priority and joy.
Donna worked in the insurance industry for 30+ years and was highly respected and admired for her professionalism, customer service, dedication and steadfast work ethic.
When not working Donna would enjoy camping in their fifth wheel in Pecos and water skiing at Elephant Butte Lake. She and Eddie enjoyed their time together square dancing, riding motorcycles and going to car shows and baseball games. In later years they enjoyed traveling. When not on the go, you could often find her sitting on the porch, rain or shine, rocking in her chair with her sunglasses on and enjoying country music and a glass of iced tea.
Donna was a strong leader with a quiet strength and steady guidance in the family and amongst her friends. She had a resilient and strong spirit, and she had a remarkable way of helping others. She was faithful, devoted and loving to all who knew her. Donna will be lovingly remembered for her love, dedication and commitment to her family, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all the family and friends who have supported them throughout the years. It is their support that has carried them during this time. A deep debt of appreciation is extended to the Presbyterian Hospice Team especially, Jessica and Indira. Also, a special thank you to Nora and Estella and the many care givers who provided personal care and love to Donna and the family and who walked with them over the past 2 ½ years.
The family invites all who knew Donna to celebrate her life and legacy. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, at FRENCH- Lomas at 10:00 am with a Graveside service to follow at 12:00 p.m. at Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery. Followed by a reception.
