Donna Joan Cook

December 25, 1932 — April 28, 2025

Albuquerque

Donna Joan Cook, but known as Joan to her friends and family, 92, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, left us peacefully on April 28th, 2025, surrounded by the love of her adoring family.

Born December 25, 1932, in Lansing, Michigan, to Bernard and Nellie Biergans, and sister to June, Bernice, Francis, Rose, and Margie. Joan went on to become the first in her family to go to college and become a nurse which inspired generations of nurses after her. She and her husband, Philip Cook, partnered to raise three kind and compassionate sons, while building a veterinary practice together. Throughout their years together, they found opportunities to travel to all corners of the country. She enjoyed sewing and knitting, leaving behind works of art affectionately stitched into countless quilts for her loved ones to treasure and winter attire that she donated to those in need. Joan loved being near the water and spent many winters with her sister Margie watching the sun rise over the gulf and fishing. While in New Mexico she enjoyed seeing the hot air balloons flying in the skies.

She was a devoted mother, but her unconditional love, support, and encouragement of her grandchildren was nothing short of lifesaving. She kept an open door and open arms in times of need, always forgiving, never judging.

She is survived by her sons Steve (Cynthia) Cook, Joe (Jan) Cook and daughter-in-law, Melody. She will forever be cherished and remembered by her grandchildren, Jessica Heacock, Chris Cook, Stacey Munger, Aaron Cook, Joshua Cook, and Cameron Cook, and great-grandchildren. Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Cook, and son, Charles Cook.

She will be deeply missed, but we are forever grateful for the time we shared and the memories she has left us.

A memorial service will be arranged in Lansing, MI. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Doctors Without Borders.
