Donald Dean Murphy

Donald D. Murphy went to be with our Lord,January 20, 2018.

He was born in Huntley, NE on March 31, 1929. He married Joan Hollenbeck Nov. 1950 and of that union was born five children. Don enlisted in the United States Air Force and served from 1951 – 1955, while serving one year in Suwon, Korea he felt the call to the ministry. Don was a United Methodist pastor for 30 years serving in both TX and NM. In TX he served Ft. Davis, Lone Oak, Prosper, Van Horn and Sierra Blanca. In NM he served as Campus Minister at NMSU and Hatch; Asbury, Melrose, Clayton, Peralta, Gallup and Clovis. He retired from the ministry in 1987.

Don is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen of 30 years. Children: Donna Jo Philips (Garry) of Albuquerque; David Murphy (Sarah) of OK; Lorelei Patton of Albuquerque; Douglas Murphy (Patricia) of CA; Pamela Leydig (Mike) of Albuquerque; Dr. Dana Murphy of Canada and Darrin Murphy (Carmen) of Albuquerque. Grandchildren: Jordan Murphy, Ryan Murphy, Alwyn Murphy, Hayden Murphy, Dawson Murphy, Sabrina Murphy, Krystal Shelton (Bo), Stephaine Britt (Russell), Tyler Rose Castañeda and James Patton. Great Grandchildren: Dylan, Emily and Aiden Murphy; Kayden, Kamden and Korben Shelton; Presley and Paxton Britt; Aiden Castañeda Silva. Don was preceded in death by his sisters, Virginia Harms and Jeanne Johnson of NE; brother Richard Murphy of Albuquerque and Grandson Jared Murphy of Monks Corner, SC.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Lisa Stolarczyk and her staff of High Desert Hospice so we could keep Don at home during his last days.

Viewing will be held Friday, January 26, 2018, 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at FRENCH – Lomas. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 27, 2018, 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 315 Coal Ave SE.
