Listen to Obituary

Donald Gene (Don) Johnson completed his journey, at the age of 82 years old, on the 13th of September, 2026. He joined our Lord, at home, surrounded by his family, his dog JoJo, and the music he loved. He was a member of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma, Ocese band of the Ecovlke (Deer) clan. He was born in WewokaOK and he lived his final years with Adrian, Lostah, Erin, and Little Lostah Marie in Albuquerque, NM. His presence in the home and walking around the neighborhood will be missed by all who had the opportunity to hear his stories. He made many friends on those walks and would often come home with sweet treats and a smile. He was cherished and deeply loved by all.

Don was an incredible welder, comically stubborn, and extremely hardworking. He was an avid baseball fan, taking any opportunity to cheer on his beloved Isotopes. He will be remembered for contributing his metalwork expertise at the Isotopes baseball park; his name forever engraved on the civic dedication plaque located near the main entrance of Isotopes Stadium. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War as part of the 101st Airborne Division "Screaming Eagles" at Fort Campbell, KY.

Don is survived by his children, Michael & Michelle, Halea Sturos, Lostah Johnson, Nanabah Joy, Eric Johnson, and Lance Johnson; son-in-laws, Matthew Sturos, Adrian Rivas, and Richard Joy; former spouse, Lucinda Brown; sister, Fannie King; brother-in-law, Mitchell King; grandchildren, Dylan Harrison, Tyra Sturos, Erin Rivas-Johnson, Lostah Marie Rivas-Johnson, and Jacquelynn Joy; and extended family, Lucas Coker, Alvina Coker, Rachel Farani, Madonna Williams, Christopher Harjo, Samantha Wisdom, and Donetta Lena who were raised by Edward and Mable Johnson. Don loved all his nieces, nephews, cousins, and those who called him "Papa."

Donald is preceded in death by his parents, Edward Lee Johnson and Mable Johnson (Wolf); his sisters, Ruth Ann Marshall and Harriet Lee Wisdom; grandparents, George Johnson, Miselda Johnson, Salina Nero Wolf, and Palmer Wolf; nephew, Don Edward Coker who was raised by Edward and Mable Johnson; and his best friend/fishing buddy, Billy.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at French Funerals - Westside Chapel at 9:30 am. He will be buried at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM following the chapel services.
