Donald Hitchner, 94, was called home to heaven on December 17, 2017. Don was born on August 14, 1923 in Glenrosa, British Columbia, Canada. When Don was three years old, the family moved to Perry, Kansas where they farmed for many years. Don came to know the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior in 1943 when he was in the US Navy. He served during World War II from 1944 to 1946. After the war ended, the family moved to New Mexico and farmed in Los Chavez. The Hitchner family attended the Gospel Hall in Albuquerque where Don met his future wife, Anita Lou Guynes. Don and Anita were married on December 8, 1947. Don worked for 40 years in the sheet metal, HVAC field, retiring from Miller Metal Company in 1988. After retirement, he managed and maintained rental properties until he was in his early 90s. Don was an exceptional husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Don truly cared for others and loved sharing the gospel message of salvation through Christ alone.
Don was preceded in death by his dear wife of nearly 63 years, Anita. He is survived by his five daughters, Donita Howard (Steve) of Riverview, New Brunswick, Canada, Marilyn Steele (Philip) of Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, Joyce Hitchner (Larry Chavez) of Albuquerque, Linda Pickett (Duane) of Albuquerque, and Sheryl Walker (Chuck) of Albuquerque; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. The lives of those blessed to know Don will feel the deep loss of this faithful, wonderful man.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at FRENCH - University. The funeral service will be on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 10:00 a.m., at FRENCH - University. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE.
