Dolores Romero, born on February 25, 1940, in Albuquerque, NM, was called to her eternal home on June 3, 2025. God was truly the center of her life, as reflected in her steadfast dedication to her Catholic faith, her daily devotion to prayer, and her compassionate treatment of others. Dolores' early years began in the embrace of monastic life, with the Dominican Sisters in Adrian, Michigan and later in Oakland, California. This marked the beginning of a remarkable 40-year teaching career. As her heart continued in service and dedication to God, she gracefully left the convent, returned to New Mexico, and was blessed to meet Robert, her beloved husband. Together, they built a beautiful family and she was cherished as a fixture in her community, profoundly shaping the hearts and lives of countless students at San Felipe de Neri Catholic School.
Throughout her life, Dolores found joy in praying the Divine Mercies, playing bingo, baking delicious treats to share, and staying physically active. She deeply loved all of her family and friends and her eyes radiated with joy and a loving purity that warmed the hearts of all she encountered.
Dolores is survived by her husband, Robert; her son, Elias; her son and daughter-in-law, Freddie and Cynthia Romero; stepdaughter, Jaymie Romero; her brother, Manuel Maldonado; and sister, Viola Cortez. Dolores' legacy lives on through her cherished grandchildren, Micah and Keira, who will carry forward her spirit of kindness and love. Though she has departed from this earthly realm, her memory will forever be a source of light and inspiration for all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel Paz and Juanita Maldonado; brothers, Pedro, Joel, and Louie Maldonado; and sisters, Annie Trujillo, Mary Alice Vigil, Sally Lopez, Lupe Gonzales, and Nina Armijo.
