Deborah Smith passed away suddenly on August 19, 2025. She was the kindest person anyone would want to have as a friend, mother, wife or coworker. As her family would continue to say, "she is the angel of our family".
She was born in Bellaire, Ohio to Sidney and Kikue Kowell on May 3, 1955. As a child from a military family she traveled around the country and world. She settled down in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1966, where she went to Kirtland AFB Elementary, Wilson Junior High and Highland High school.
She ended up getting a Drafting certificate for Engineering at Albuquerque TVI and later went back to college (UNM) to finish her civil engineering degree. She worked for many years as an engineer for the Army Corp of Engineers doing projects throughout the country. She loved her dogs and cats as well as her gardening. She took care of her mother on a daily basis as Kikue was in Assisted Living for many years. She retired from work in 2019 from the Army Corp of Engineers and turned her attention to her hobbies which included being with her husband Scott, gardening and her daily walks (with and without the dogs).
She is survived by her husband Scott, and son Jason. She is to be buried at the National Cemetary in Santa Fe on September 8th at 2pm.
She will be missed beyond words and her love is felt in each of us she touched. God took this angel, I wish it wasn't so soon.
Ps. The family is going to plan a home gathering at a time and date yet to be determined.
