David Wayne Thompson, age 71, a longtime resident of Dexter, NM, passed away on January 15, 2026, in Rio Rancho, NM. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Sue Thompson of Dexter, NM. He is survived by his two sisters, Joyce Thompson Gottlieb of Rio Rancho, NM, and Deborah Thompson of Belton, TX; children, locations unknown, are Amanda, Jennifer, and David; nephew, BJ Gottlieb of Rio Rancho, NM; and niece, Misty Gottlieb of Reston, VA.

David served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1973 to 1998. He served in the Arctic, Pacific, Atlantic, and Continental United States during his time in the U.S. Coast Guard. He received numerous awards and decorations while in the service. After retirement, he continued working in various capacities. He deemed it a great honor to serve his country.

A Visitation will take place on Wednesday, January 21st, 2026, at 5:00 p.m., followed by a Funeral Service at 6:00 p.m., at FRENCH - Rio Rancho Chapel.

Burial will take place Thursday, January 22nd, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 N Guadalupe St, Santa Fe, NM 87501.
