David Wayne Thompson, 71, a longtime resident of Dexter, NM, died on January 15, 2026, in Rio Rancho, NM. Preceding him were his parents, David and Sue Thompson of Dexter, NM. He is survived by his two sisters, Joyce Thompson Gottlieb of Rio Rancho, NM, and Deborah Thompson of Belton, TX; children, locations unknown, names are Amanda, Jennifer, and David; nephew, BJ Gottlieb of Rio Rancho, NM; and niece, Misty Gottlieb of Reston, VA. David served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1973 to 1998. He served in the Arctic, Pacific, Atlantic, and Continental United States during his time in the U.S. Coast Gaurd. He received numerous awards and decorations while in the service. After retirement, he continued working in various capacities. He deemed it a great honor to serve his country.

A Visitation will take place Wednesday, January 21st, 2026 at 5:00pm, followed by a Funeral Service at 6:00pm at FRENCH - Rio Rancho at 1275 Unser Blvd NE, Rio Rancho, NM 87144.

Burial will take place Thursday, January 22nd, 2026 at 1:00pm at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 501 N Guadalupe St, Santa Fe, NM 87501.
