David Charles Richards

August 5, 1931 — December 19, 2020

David Richards, 89, peacefully passed away in his home on Saturday, December 19th, 2020 with his family by his side. Born in Pittston, Pennsylvania and son to the late Milford and Elizabeth (Vaughn) Richards.

Dave graduated from West Pittston High School where he started his football legacy. An outstanding football player and athlete, Dave proceeded to become a member of the Luzerne County High School Football Hall of Fame. Dave then went on to join the University of Arizona Football Team on a 4-year scholarship where he was bestowed the most valuable player award in 1952. Later on in life Dave was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in South Bend Indiana. Dave then went on to have a 32-year career with TWA (Trans World Airlines) beginning in Binghamton, NY, then to Pittsburg, PA, while ending the rest of his career as a supervisor at Albuquerque International Airport. He loved swimming, golfing (receiving a hole in one in 88) and being the president of the TWA Seniors Club for many many years. Dave also belonged to the Men's Group at Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Dave's memory will be cherished by his wife of 61 years, Janice (Garlin) Richards; son Craig Richards, wife Joyce; daughter Liz (Richards) Dahlinger; brother Robert (Bob) Richards of Clinton, Ohio; grandsons, Joshua Richards and Austin (Richards) Dahlinger; plus, many many nieces and nephews spanning though Ohio, Pennsylvania and Arizona.

Services will be held in 2021.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to HCPC (Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church) Good Samaritan Fund 8600 Academy Blvd NE 87111. A celebration of Dave's life will be held sometime in the spring of 2021. Dave will be buried at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico in a private ceremony.
