David Richard Myers

David R. Myers, 77, passed peacefully from this life on April 16, 2026. He is survived by his wife, Janice; daughter, Laura Whittet; son, Matt Myers; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Michael and Kathy Ptacin; and a brother, Greg Myers.

First and foremost a family man, Dave enjoyed watching his children grow into accomplished adults. He was a loving husband to his wife of 50 years.

Dave was a highly intelligent man with a great sense of humor and a lively interest in world events, the arts, and humanities. A lifelong Cubs fan, he stuck with the team through many ups and downs. After starting voice lessons at age 40, singing became one of his passions. Nothing buoyed his spirits like walking a golf course.

Dave and Janice were blessed to have traveled extensively. Dave leaves behind his beloved dog, Bruno.

After earning a PhD in electrical engineering at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana in 1975, Dave began a four-year stint at the then National Bureau of Standards as a researcher in ion implantation of semiconductor materials. In 1981, he began a 30-year distinguished career at Sandia National Labs as a researcher and later a manager, with a final position of Deputy Director.

A memorial prayer service and reception will be held on April 28 at 11 a.m. at French's Funeral Home on Wyoming.
