David "JD" Metzgar Jr.
With faith in God's eternal promises, we announce the passing of David Jacob Metzgar Jr. age 88 of Albuquerque, New Mexico who entered into the presence of the Lord on May 22, 2026 at his home in Paradise Hills surrounded by his family.
JD Metzgar was born on July 5th, 1937 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to David Sr. and Josie Metzgar. He lived a life grounded in faith, love, and devotion to his family and community. A faithful servant of God, he found strength and joy in serving at several local churches including El Buen Samaritano and Mesa View United Methodist Churches in Albuquerque, and Faith Church in Rio Rancho, NM. He enjoyed singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, and volunteering and helping in any way he could.
He was a loving husband to his wife , Angie Metzgar, of 65 years, and a loving Dad, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. His kindness, strength, and steady faith touched the lives of many. He worked as a draftsman for petroleum and civil engineering firms and also worked as a job site inspector for large civil engineering projects. He enjoyed playing baseball, officiating high school and college football, basketball, and baseball, attending church camp in Sacramento, NM, traveling with friends, and most importantly spending time with his family.
JD is survived by his wife Angie Metzgar, his children Vincent Metzgar and wife Antoinette of Rio Rancho, David Metzgar and wife Debbie of Phoenix, Arizona, and Valerie Patterson and husband Dave of Rio Rancho, grandchildren Derek Metzgar and wife Jasmine, Dillon Metzgar and wife Emily, Grace Richard and husband Sean, Jake Metzgar, Dean Metzgar and wife Celia, Mia Higgins and husband Isaiah, Joy Metzgar, Lindy, Metzgar, Presley Metzgar, Austin Patterson and wife Dominique, Brady Patterson, Clay Patterson and fiancé Dalaina, and David Patterson, great-grandchildren Oliver Metzgar, Orion Metzgar, Jacob Metzgar, River Metzgar, Cruz Metzgar, Mariana Patterson, and Gabriela Patterson, and niece Geri Hernandez and husband Tony.
He was preceded in death by his father David Jacob Metzgar Sr., his mother Josie Metzgar, sister Lucy Griego and brother-in-law Aaron Griego.
Those who knew JD will remember his faith, humor, and devotion to family. He lived his life as an example of God's love and leaves behind a legacy of faith that will continue through those who loved him.
The family takes comfort in the words of Psalm 23 which was JD's favorite..."The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want..."
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 6th at 10:30am at Faith Church in Rio Rancho at 900 Southern Blvd. SE with Pastor Mike McDonald officiating. A reception will immediately follow the service in the fellowship hall of the church.
Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice in knowing that JD is now at peace in the arms of Jesus Christ his Savior. He will be deeply missed until we meet again in eternal life.
