Listen to Obituary

Curtis Troy Madrid, 55, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2026.

Curtis graduated from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (New Mexico Tech), where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Technical Communication. He was exceptionally intelligent, quick-witted, and possessed a wonderfully sarcastic and quirky sense of humor.

Curtis had a remarkable ability to make people laugh. Whether surrounded by family and friends or meeting someone for the first time, he could bring humor into almost any conversation. His sharp wit, clever observations, and perfectly timed sarcasm were unmistakably Curtis. You never quite knew what he was going to say next, but chances were good that it would make you laugh.

Curtis was an avid collector of comic books and collectible cards. His appreciation for science fiction, imaginative storytelling, and the worlds beyond our own was reflected in his many collections. In fact, Curtis owned eight lightsabers, which suggests he was more than adequately prepared should the Galactic Empire ever decide to visit Albuquerque.

Curtis shared an especially close relationship with his father, Gilbert. The two spent countless hours together in front of the TV, watching sports, often exchanging jokes, sarcastic observations, and good-natured banter. Their conversations could sometimes resemble Statler and Waldorf, always ready with a clever remark. Their unique sense of humor and the bond they shared were an important part of their relationship.

Curtis also shared a close relationship with his sister, Gayla. Like many siblings, they didn't always see eye to eye, and neither was particularly shy about expressing an opinion. They could have a heated disagreement one moment and, two hours later, be heading off to the movies together as though nothing had happened. Beneath the disagreements was a genuine love for one another.

Curtis was also a very talented athlete with a strong competitive spirit. He especially enjoyed playing basketball with his two nephews, creating memories they will always cherish.

Curtis experienced his share of life's challenges, but those challenges never diminished the love his family had for him. He will be remembered for his sharp mind, his humor, his individuality, and the many memories he leaves behind.

Curtis was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Madrid, who passed away in March 2019. He is survived by his father, Gilbert Madrid; his sister, Gayla Gurule; and his brother, Mitchell Madrid.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 2, 2026, 11:00 a.m., at Calvary Church, 4001 Osuna Road NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87109.

The family is deeply grateful for the many prayers, expressions of kindness, and outpouring of love and support they have already received. Your continued prayers and support during this difficult time are sincerely appreciated.

Although Curtis's life has come to an end, the laughter he brought into the lives of others and the memories he created will not be forgotten.
