Coda III, passed away on Thanksgiving night in his beloved home in St. Petersburg, FL in the arms of his husband, Jack, and surrounded by his dear friends. Coda was a six-year survivor of pancreatic cancer. He fought his battle well with courage and determination and gave pancreatic cancer one of the toughest fights it ever encountered.

Everyone who ever met Coda loved Coda.  Coda’s love for his family knew no bounds.  His impact on this world was immense.  He was a free spirit from the time he was a small child, and he grew up to be larger than life. He could light up a room with his smile.  Coda had a gift for cooking, entertaining, dressing, gardening, decorating, traveling and loving.  He loved his dogs and they provided great comfort to him through the past few years.  He attended Bandelier Elementary School and was a member of the first class to enter Albuquerque Academy in the 6th grade.  He studied Building Design at CFCC.  He moved from Albuquerque in the early 80’s to St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands where he channeled his love of cooking into his own catering business. Later, he moved to Ocala, FL, then to St. Petersburg, the city he loved.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Owen; his mother, Dorothy; and his father, Coda. He is survived by his husband, Jack Hadad; his step-mother, Reba; his brother, Robby, and his wife, Von; his niece, Kathy and her husband, Leroy Gallegos; his niece, Shannon Roberson Wildenstein and her husband, Jim; great-nephew, Brett Owen Matthew, who Coda adored; his step-sisters, Dava Ong, Neva Coffee, Tamela Thomas; and his step-brothers, Karl Thomas, and Corvin Thomas.

In the month preceding his death, Coda was taken care of by his family – Jack, Reba, Dava, Neva and Tamela, for which we are very grateful. A special “Thank You” to Curtis Meade for his loving care of Coda.  Coda lived for all of us, even when he was struggling.  Coda had the gift of making everyone else feel good, even when he did not.

A memorial to honor Coda will take place Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Bosque Conference and Retreat Center at 6400 Coors Blvd. N.W.  Entombment at Sunset Memorial Mausoleum has taken place.
