Clifford Hughes

March 11, 1939 — November 27, 2023

Clifford Earl Hughes (Cliff) was born March 11, 1939 in Weslaco, TX to Raymond Earl Hughes and Inez Hughes. He was preceded in death by his parents, two half-sisters Kathryn Faye Halbig and Elizabeth Jo Smith, and two grandsons. He is survived by his wife Esther and children, Annette Sloman (Husband Gary), Diana Ricter (Husband Leon), Vinson Hughes (Wife Claudia), Janice Price, Gina Luck Hogeman (Husband Tom). There are 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews that knew and loved him, and one special sister-in-law Margaret Moses (Husband Phil). He has one surviving brother, David (Dave) Hughes (Wife Judy). Cliff loved his family deeply.

At the age of 11 Cliff chose to serve God. He kept true to that choice until the end of his life November 27, 2023. He had a real love for his Faith, the New Testament Ministry and the friends that he shared sweet fellowship with. He was not a perfect man but he was a forgiven man.

Cliff completed high school with a GED and then joined Local #495 as an Iron Worker Apprentice at the age of 18. He worked his way up through the ranks eventually becoming the Business Agent. For a few years he left the Iron Workers to work with Stearns Rogers in Labor Relations. That took him and his family to Colorado, Indiana and Texas. He came back to NM in 1982 to the Iron Workers and was elected again as their Business Agent. He then started his own steel erection business with his wife, Esther and a partner in 1984. In 1986 the company became family owned. At one point the company employed over 160 Iron Workers, crane operators and many family members. Cliff was thankful that the company was able to provide employment for many. On April 30, 2012, Cliff made the decision to close Hughes And Associates, Inc.
