Charles Stephen Johnson, a loving, caring and faithful husband, father, grandfather, son and friend experienced a sudden hemorrhagic stroke and slipped away into the arms of his Heavenly Father on May 26, 2018.
Charles came to Albuquerque in 1956 joining Sandia National Laboratories as a staff member. He retired from Sandia in 1997 after holding a position as a leader in the design and development of video surveillance systems for the IAEA in Vienna, Austria. Charles was honored by becoming a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff at the Labs. Upon coming to Albuquerque, he joined the First Baptist Church and soon afterward met Nancy Robinson, his wife-to-be. They married at the church in 1960. Charles served as the director of the College and Career Department's weekly Bible Study, as well as a member of the church's finance committee. In 1970 his family joined Hoffmantown Baptist Church where he assisted in engineering and developing the church's TV Ministry through 1995, after which time he and his family worshipped and served in the ministries of New Covenant Church. Charles came from humble beginnings and had many accomplishments in life, but the most important one to him was his family - his wife of 58 years; his two sons, Stephen Johnson and wife, Kristi and Wayne Johnson and wife, Kurstin; and his two grandsons, Kyle and Joshua Johnson. In addition to his wife, sons and grandson, he is survived by the mother of his grandsons, Susan Johnson. He was preceded in death by his mother, Juanita Sullivan and step-father, Fred Sullivan.
Charles’ sons and grandsons were his pride and joy on this earth, and he in turn was his family's hero. The family always knew that Charles was intellectually gifted, honest, wise and a godly man whom they loved dearly and are grateful for the example he set.
