Charles W. Irland, age 74, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 18, 2025. He was born in San Benito, Texas.
Charles was a lifelong student who never stopped learning. He earned a BS degree in Chemistry from UNM and worked for Kennicott. While in Silver City he earned a BS degree in computer programming from WNMU while also earning his certification as a Technologist in Chemistry by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. He worked on White Sands for many years, at HP for a few more and later turned to an early affinity towards medicine and helping others by earning his EMT certification and subsequently his Associates in Nursing from CNMCC. He spent the rest of his career as an ER nurse at Presbyterian Hospital's Anna Kaseman facility where he was dedicated to the care and wellbeing of the many patients he looked after. After retiring, Charles moved to Pagosa Springs.
Charles was very passionate about his interests. He was an avid bicyclist and catch-and-release fly fisherman. He would explore many streams in northern New Mexico and would sometimes obtain tribal approval to cross their lands so he could access some more remote ones. He took an interest in his nephew and niece's lives, helped care for his mother before her passing, and spent an extremely generous amount of time helping his father during the last decade of his life: visiting with him, taking him to appointments or the base or driving him up to or back from his condo in Pagosa Springs.
Charles was a compassionate and generous son, brother, uncle, great uncle and friend who we miss. God love him. We do.
