Starts at 10:00 am (Mountain time)
Cathy Aileen McCorkle, age 75, our precious wife, mother, grandma, sister, aunt, friend, and faithful servant to God went home to be with the Lord on June 18, 2026. Cathy was born in Fort Collins, Colorado on August 25, 1950 to Paul and Shirley Weaver Jr. She was preceded in death by both parents and her brother Paul Weaver III. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Sherman McCorkle, her two daughters and their spouses, Ashley Chancellor & Justin Muniz, Shelby & Peter Villegas, and three grandchildren, Hunter Chancellor (17), Grey Villegas (7) and Rylie Villegas (4). She is also survived by her siblings and their spouses, Karen Goit (Carl), Cheryl Goehring (Marty), Mark Weaver (Teresa), and Susann Weaver (widow of Paul). She also leaves many cherished nieces and nephews.
Cathy lived in many interesting places while her father was employed with the Forest Service. She fondly remembered living in a look-out tower as a young girl on the Gila National Forest. She moved with her family to Albuquerque in 1960 and graduated from Sandia High School in 1968. Very shortly after graduation she met her future husband while working at the Cinema East movie theater. They were married on September 4, 1969, and lived in several cities in New Mexico before settling in Albuquerque in 1973. They enjoyed traveling with the New Mexico Corvette Club, spending weekends at Elephant Butte lake, learning to snow ski, and camping in the National Forests around New Mexico and Colorado.
Cathy worked in banking and then owned an accounting firm, Empire Accounting, before retiring in 1996. She was very active in the Albuquerque community through volunteering, donating, and serving on different boards in a variety of roles. In 2006, after learning about the challenges facing foster children in New Mexico, Cathy was compelled to take action. As a founding board member and Treasurer of the Heart Gallery of NM Foundation, she dedicated her time to supporting vulnerable foster children and young people aging out of the system. Over 20 years of unwavering commitment, she raised significant awareness and inspired many other community members to get involved. Her leadership and dedication have made a meaningful difference in the lives of hundreds of foster children. In addition to her work with Heart Gallery, she served for three years on the board of Women in Philanthropy, chaired the fundraising gala for the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and was a founding board member of Wesley Kids Childcare and Preschool.
Cathy loved flowers and always kept fresh flowers in her home. She hosted Thanksgiving and Christmas for her family every year and took great care in setting up decorations and cooking. She was an avid reader, a big tennis fan, had a deep love for music, and was a member of a prayer group and bible study group. Cathy also loved to travel and made several trips all over the world - including an annual "sisters' trip". One of her favorite vacations was to go to the Caribbean with her family - most recently in December of 2025. She enjoyed sailing, snorkeling, collecting shells, spotting sea turtles, taking in the amazing landscapes, and watching the sun rise and set each day.
Our amazing mother loved deeply and courageously; she was exceptionally kind, generous, thoughtful, and full of life. Her laugh was vivacious and contagious, and a perfect example of living life to the fullest. One of her favorite activities was spending time with her family, especially her three grandchildren. She found profound joy in watching them grow, encouraging them, and loving them unconditionally. She was a fierce and loyal friend who always made those around her feel supported, loved, and heard. Our lives are forever changed and we grieve the loss of our beautiful Cathy - until we meet again.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church at 10:00 a.m. 8600 Academy Rd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111. Attendees are encouraged to wear pastels or bright colors to honor the brightness Cathy brought to all our lives. Memorial contributions may be made in Cathy's honor to Heart Gallery of NM Foundation, 13170B Central Ave. SE #190, Albuquerque, NM 87123.
