Carolyn Hinken, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away on March 18, 2025. Carolyn was born in Omaha, Nebraska to Ferdinand and Elsie Reinick on September 13, 1942. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from St. Lukes Nursing School in Denver, Colorado in 1963. While in Denver, she met Bob Hinken and they were married on April 13, 1964. They moved to Albuquerque, where she worked at Bataan Medical Center for several years before moving to TV-I, where she taught nursing. She also worked for the University of New Mexico Hospital for many years until her retirement. After her retirement, she took great pleasure in volunteering at Paws Thrift Store.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Bob. She is survived by her children, Scott Hinken, Steve Hinken, and Cindy Sauers (husband Shawn), and the joy of her life, her grandchildren, Maryellen, Owen, Nathan, and Jesse.
Carolyn was a constant caretaker, always using her compassionate heart and nursing skills to help her friends in need. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. In lieu of flowers, please send or take donations to Paws Thrift Store, 1830 Juan Tabo NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
