Carl Foster Howton Jr.

Born January 30,1947 and passed on July 28, 2026.

Carl went to be with his Mom, Dad and Sisters early Tuesday morning and we really miss him.

My wonderful husband Carl was such a kind and gentle man. He was very talented as a woodworker and carpenter and could build and fix anything. He finished the inside of our cabin in the Brazos in Northern New Mexico so beautifully where we spent as a family including friends and made tons of memories. He was so proud of the cabin.

He not only gained a daughter but also a son with her brother Cade. My beautiful daughter Khristi loved him so much and said after he passed "he chose me when my own father didn't". He loved to cook and would use fresh ingredients from farmer's markets or his garden. He loved sharing recipes and the food he and Khristi made. He held her new born son Jayden on his chest from the first day home from the hospital and often carried him under his arm like a football until he could walk. He helped Jayden become a wonderful man and in return Jayden helped take care of his grandfather through hard times with his help.

Carl and their mother Melba were so proud of their boys. Now they are such caring men and fathers.

For me it was heartbreaking when they came from Seattle to say their final goodbyes to their Dad.

Carl and I traveled the US in our Blazer and RV with our dogs and made many happy memories. We both loved to fish and we went camping every weekend and always asked what direction we should go. We always had Friday date nights since 1989 and saw every movie created.

He was also a visionary landscaper by trade and modeled the Sandia Mountains, Rio Grande River and the Mesa to design our front yard which I love now and maintain. He put a pond with fish and plants and raised garden beds for flowers and vegetables in our backyard under our Cottonwood tree with shade for all family and friends to enjoy.

Carl served proudly in the US Navy as a Radioman on the USS Ranger (CV-61) during the Vietnam War. He was praised for his service which finally happened many years after the war ended. His younger brother Dale, served in the Vietnam War in the Army and made it home too.

Dale and Carl often shared many stories living in Kentucky. Carl was the oldest of the three siblings and caused havoc. Carl saved his brother Dale after falling through ice on a pond they were skating on which is Dales favorite memory of his brother.

As his wife and caretaker I saw him suffer with his heart disease progression which ultimately took him. I know he is at peace now and his brother Butch knows that God does not make mistakes.

He is survived by his sons Stephen and Micheal and their wonderful families and his many amazing grandchildren that reside in Washington. He is also survived by his beautiful wife Cheryl, daughter Kristi, grandson Jayden, brother Dale Howton from Texas and brother Butch Goodaker from Kentucky, his nephew Nick Bitner and his wonderful family and his dog Bodi. He was preceded in death by his parents,

Ruth Goodaker Carl Foster Howton Sr.,his sisters Teresa Bitner and Donna McGregor and stepson Cade Johnson. Carl Jr. Was the oldest surviving Howton.
