Byron Rogers

June 5, 1949 — October 16, 2025

Bishop Byron Michael Rogers, 76, transitioned from this life to his eternal home on October 16, 2025, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was born on June 5, 1949, in Watonga, Oklahoma. Byron was one of seven children born to Katie and Omar Rogers. He grew up in Chicago, where he attended South Shore High School and played football. After high school, he started college, but was compelled to defend his country, voluntarily joining the Marines in January 1968 to fight in the Vietnam War. After the war, he returned to college and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas.

Blessed from an early age with the gift of resourcefulness, Bishop Rogers started his first business around the age of 7, where he would go to the local grocery store, offering his services to carry groceries for customers. He saved and eventually purchased a little red wagon to facilitate more business. Bishop Rogers worked hard and would go on to build a lucrative career in sales. He worked for several companies and eventually became a Regional Manager at Comgraphix in Albuquerque.

During this time, he served faithfully in ministry alongside his wife. His service to the Lord extended beyond tithes, offerings, and church involvement; he also served in city missions, such as Sister Dolly's Homeless Ministry and others. Through the example of his faith in Christ, along with the fervent prayers of Mother Rogers and his deep love for his family, including his siblings, children, nieces, nephews, and many more, they came to faith in Christ.

But God gave Bishop Rogers a vision, calling him to even more. He retired early, became an ordained minister, and founded Power House Church of God on the west side of Albuquerque; later establishing a school serving K-12. He subsidized both ministries, and as the church grew, it stood on its own. He was ordained Bishop in 2001 and led Powerhouse for 19 years. Bishop loved to remind people how God's power can change you and how he was evidence of that work. For him, it was always "to God be the glory".

Bishop Rogers mentored, advised, and provided encouragement to other ministers of the Gospel. His passion for coming alongside smaller ministries continued even after he retired from pastoring. He did guest speaker engagements, prayed fervently for the body of Christ, and let us not forget how he made us laugh and smile with a wonderful sense of humor.

Byron is survived by his wife of 52 years Selma, his children Jonita, Larry, Byron Jr. (Felicia), and Wesley (Crystal); his siblings Omar (Sharon), Guilford (Jocelyn), Cynthia (Gary), Robert (Nancy), and Theresa (Brian); and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grand-children, nieces, and nephews. Byron was preceded in death by his parents; and sister Linda. We will miss him, but we know he is in the presence of Jesus.
