B. Sheldon Miller

September 7, 1965 — December 23, 2024

Sheldon was born in Walnut Creek, California on Tuesday, September 7, 1965, his parents Alan and Mary Miller's eighth wedding anniversary!

When he was two years old the family of four moved to Socorro, New Mexico where he grew up. He graduated from Socorro High School and was on the winning Socorro High State Golf Championship team.

Upon graduation from Socorro High School, he earned an AA degree from Eastern New Mexico University in Roswell. He then worked as an auto tech for an Albuquerque Chrysler Dealer for 20 years ending as Service Manager.

He worked for the Daskalos family for 19 years, most recently as Manager of the Maintenance Department. Since 2005 he has been the crew chief for Jason Daskalos's auto races culminating in GT World, SRO Motorsports races. He saw the USA driving from the seat of a big rig which carried the racing car and all the tools and supplies. He was named 2024 Crew Chief of the Year by GT World Racing. And his crew team was named Crew of the year for 2024.

Since high school, one of his many hobbies was hunting quail with his friend Robert and their yellow labs, Nanook and Sheba. The men have continued hunting with Sheldon's current lab, Odin. A second hobby began on summer vacations at California's Lake Shasta where he learned about the joys of piloting motorboats and of waterskiing from his Uncle Walt. He carried this forward to summer months at Elephant Butte Lake in NM.

As a teenager, the Miller family embarked on two road trips in Europe with his beloved grandparents, Mae and Bob Miller. Everyone had a window seat in the Volkswagen van. Sheldon's compassion and attention to detail were evident during those trips. Not only did he notice whether or not the gas cap had been replaced after refueling, but also, when rain began to fall on their group in Venice, Italy, Sheldon asked a restaurant for a black garbage bag to cover up his grandmother in her wool suit!

When remodeling his house, Sheldon and his partner Janet did a majority of the interior work, including professional grade electrical work. The likes of which he'd seen his father complete when they built their Socorro home. That would have made Alan proud.

Sheldon loved his four children fiercely, Christina (Billy), Crystal, Steven (Neita), & Amber. He spent as much time with them as possible. In their growing years they spent weekends go-cart racing, and boating at Elephant Butte Lake with many family friends, including their "Uncle John". Their dad taught them how to swim and wakesurf. In addition to fun, he was proud that he instilled in them a strong work ethic. He was a man who could fix anything and would always help them with their passions, problems, and projects. He also loved and adored his nine grandchildren (21 years to 5 months; Iris, Tristen, Kayleigh, Kodi, Kolton, Sage, Gunner, Isla, and Junia), and nine-month-old great-grandchild, Simon.

Sheldon was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father. He leaves behind his beloved partner Janet Smith, his mother Mary Miller, sister Heidi Sims, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, aunts, uncle, cousins and nieces.

The family wishes to thank the loving care he received from the doctor and nurses at UNMH Cancer Center, and Roadrunner Hospice.

"We will feel him in the rain, in the wind, in the bite of snow, in the scent of autumn leaves, and in deep and penetrating silence. We will miss him terribly but will never be away from him", from The Grey Wolf by Louise Penny.

Please consider a donation in Sheldon's memory to the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation.
