Boyce "Junie" Russell left this world on June 7, 2016 at the age of 85. Boyce is survived by his wife, Noma Russell, and daughter, Robin Russell, of Albuquerque; son, Ron Russell, and wife Cecelia of Creede, Colorado; son, Rockne Russell, and wife Shannon of Weatherford, Oklahoma; grandson, Corey Russell, and wife Bret of Mustang, OK; granddaughter, Randi Evans, and husband Kyle of Elk City, OK, and four great-grandchildren, Titus and Avery Evans, Lennox and Henley Russell; and two brothers, Marvin Russell of Roswell and Charles Russell of San Marcos, Texas. He is preceded in death by his mother, Fay Russell; his step-father, R.N. Russell, and his sister, Juanita Goodlett - all of Artesia.
Boyce spent his early years in Artesia, where he graduated from high school. He went on to obtain his Bachelor's Degree from Eastern New Mexico State University and a Master's Degree from New Mexico State University. He loved sports and played both football and baseball in college. Later in life, he enjoyed golf and fishing.
Fifteen years of his life were spent in public education as a teacher and coach in Elida, Alamogordo, and Las Cruces. He spent the last 25 years of his career in Gallup, New Mexico, where he served as assistant director of the Gallup campus of UNM. His passion was bringing higher education to the people of Gallup, Zuni, and surrounding areas.
Boyce was a good and gentle man - protector and provider for the family he loved unconditionally. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
