Bobbie Chavez

Bobbie Sue Chavez, age 91, was born on July 23, 1933, in Town Creek, Alabama. Bobbie was a resident of Albuquerque since May 1954. She is survived by her daughter, Beverly and her husband Joseph Rudys; grandsons, Luke E. Rudys and Matthew Z. Rudys; son, Robert Chavez and his wife Teresa Chavez; granddaughters, Afton and husband Trevor Cobb, and Jocelyn Chavez, preceded in death by granddaughter Kristin Chavez, plus many nieces and nephews.

Bobbie retired from PNM in 1999 after 26 years. She was a member of Monterey Baptist Church and was very active with Young at Heart Choir. She volunteered for many years as she loved to stay busy. Bobbie started the women’s 3 on 3 basketball program, the Canyon Nets, for the Albuquerque Senior Olympics as well as participating in their tennis, basketball, shuffleboard, discus, and softball activities. She served on the Albuquerque Senior Olympics advisory board.

Some of the organizations she volunteered for include; 25 years at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, Dept. of Senior Affairs, Anna Kaseman Hospital, Popejoy Hall, PNM weatherization Program, Carrie Tingley Children’s Hospital, United Blood Services, March of Dimes, Run for the Zoo as well as being on their board, Duke City Marathon and ran in it several years, American Cancer Society, March of Dimes, United Way. Bobbie enjoyed spending time with her family and working outdoors in her flower and vegetable gardens.

Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Monterey Baptist Church, 12501 Lomas Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112. Visitation is at 9:30 am and the service will begin at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Young at Heart Choir (YAH).
