Betty Anne McDermott

June 11, 1952 — February 3, 2024

Our dear, sweet Betty Anne passed away unexpectedly Saturday night, February 3, 2024, with her husband of 52 years and their children by her side. She is survived by her husband, Terry; daughters, Kathleen McDermott (wife Felicia), Shannon Posey (husband Seth); sons, Terry (wife Rachael), Michael (wife Rebecca); grandsons, Quinn, Jameson, Josiah, with granddaughters Emersyn Elizabeth and Delaney Anne due to join the clan shortly. She will also be missed dearly by her 9 siblings, more than 35 nieces and nephews, as well as hundreds of friends, relatives, and souls she met along life's path.

Firstborn of ten children to an Irish cop and his Brooklyn bride, Betty Anne attended St. Agnes Cathedral High School and Molloy Catholic College for women in Rockville Centre, New York.

On December 26, 1971, she married her high school sweetheart, Terry McDermott, which began a life's journey of love, laughter, and caring for others.

Their journey ultimately led to Albuquerque and an eventual Irish migration when her mother, father, and five of her siblings joined them in the Land of Enchantment. Those who followed were not lured by the pastel sunsets of the Southwest, but by the beautiful heart and spirit of Betty Anne.

The only thing that Betty Anne enjoyed more than a beach, a good book and a Jimmy Buffet tune, was spending time with her family, and we were more than happy to accommodate. Her children never ventured far and have chosen to raise their families within walking distance of Mom's sage advice and wisdom.

She lived a life of love, service, and compassion, just as Jesus instructs us all. Those who had the good fortune to meet Betty Anne always benefitted from the encounter. They received a gift of her unconditional love, kindness, and compassion wrapped in a brilliant mind and wicked sense of humor.

Our sweet Mom led a life of purpose and profound impact, a life to be emulated but will never be replicated. She left us as she found us, with tenacity, strength, courage, and grace. Our Savior called, and she answered on the first ring. She is now in the presence of the only love stronger than her own, and we thank the Lord for that.

We believe we speak for our Mom when we say; "Life was simply delicious."
