Bernice Sackett, 98, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother was called to her eternal rest on July 29, 2026.
She entered this world on December 26, 1927, in East St. Louis, Illinois, born to Eva and George Samoska, the youngest of six children. She was a second-generation Lithuanian.
Bernice was a teacher and devoted much of her life to her family and to the values that mattered most to her. Her family and her faith were at the center of her life, providing a foundation that remained with her throughout her 98 years.
She possessed a lifelong curiosity and love of learning and was an avid reader. She valued education, enjoyed the world that books opened to her, and carried that appreciation for knowledge throughout her life.
Above all, Bernice will be remembered for the love and devotion she gave to her family. She lived a long and full life spanning nearly a century and witnessed extraordinary changes in the world, while the things she valued most - family, faith, love and devotion - remained constant.
Her memory will live on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those whose lives she touched.
A Mass will be held Friday, September 18, 2026, 11:00 a.m., at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 811 Guaymas Pl. NE. Bernice will be laid to rest with her husband and Sister Pauline at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
