Bernardino J. Chavez Jr., age 76, passed on Friday, December 11, 2020 at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, NM.
He was born on January 15, 1944 in Springer NM, the son of the late Bernardino Chavez Sr. and Antonina Chavez. He served in the ARNG from 1964 to 1970. During this time, he attended automotive college in Denver Colorado and obtained his certification as a diesel mechanic also. Remaining in Denver, he had a career in this field until he retired from the city of Denver’s Regional Transportation Division (RTD) after 30 years of employment.
He was a devoted husband to the late Frances L. Chavez, a father, grandfather and great-grand father, brother and friend He is survived by son, Eugene Chavez and wife Traci of Albuquerque; daughter, Andrea Glover and husband Derek of Rio Rancho; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by brothers, Robert Chavez, and James Chavez. He is survived by sisters, Mary Guara of Odessa, TX., Marcella Gonzales of Edgewood, NM, Lucia Hernandez and husband Chris of Edgewood, NM, Elizabeth Martinez and husband Fred of Cimarron, NM; sister-in-law, Irma Chavez of Parker, CO, sister-in-law, Juliana Chavez of Midland, TX; brothers, Alfonso and wife Pita of Springer, NM, Leroy of Odessa, TX, Elmer Sr. and wife Martha of Springer, NM, Mike of Albuquerque, NM, Paul of Cimarron, NM, and Patrick of Albuquerque, NM.
A small immediate family only service will be held on Friday, December 18, 2020, 2:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas.
Burial will be at a later date at the Immaculate Conception Church in Cimarron, NM.
