Barbara Wendorff passed away on Saturday, January 17th, 2026, at the Genesis Rehab Facility in Rio Rancho, N.M. She was born in Brooklyn, New York and was preceded in death by parents, Fred and Stella Lubben, and her sister, Nancy Mulcare, who recently passed away in December of 2025. Barbara was widowed. Her late husband was Erwin Wendorff, a scientist, poet, inventor, and Linquist.
She is survived by a brother-in-law, Don Mulcare, husband of Nancy, and their four children, as well as nieces and nephews of Barbara.
Barbara excelled in school, studying biology at the College of Saint Elizabeth, Convent Station, New Jersey. She pursued graduate work at Saint John's University in Queens, New York, and taught Biology at the College of Saint Elizabeth before meeting her future husband, Erwin Wendorff. After they married, Barbara and Erwin moved to Pennsylvania, then retired to New Mexico, where she remained the rest of her life.
Barbara volunteered with the Albuquerque Bio Park and in the hospitals in Albuquerque, visiting patients while being a handler for therapy animals that she would take to visit the ill and infirmed. She later joined the Altar Society and the Vigil Choir of Our Lady of Sorrows in Bernalillo. Barbara was a cantor in the vigil choir for nearly 10 years, then began to accompany the choir on the organ and keyboard.
Barbara will be greatly missed and fondly remembered for the days when she volunteered her many talents.
Barbara will be buried in the Placitas Cemetery next to her husband, Erwin, following a Mass of Resurrection, on Tuesday, February 17th, 2026, at 10:00 am to be held at the San Antonio Mission Church of Our Lady of Sorrows in the Village of Placitas. The Church is located seven (7) miles East of Interstate 25, on Hwy 165 in the Village of Placitas at 47 Paseo de San Antonio.
