Arthur Martinez, a beloved father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026, just shy of his 92nd birthday. He left this world surrounded by the love and warmth of his family, following a short, courageous battle with cancer. Born on July 1, 1934, in La Jara, Colorado, Arthur's life was a tapestry of love, dedication, and service.
Arthur was the cherished son of Tobias and Rebecca Martinez, who predeceased him along with his beloved wife, Luisa Martinez, and brother, Robert Martinez. He is survived by his devoted daughters, Rose Martinez (Lori Ragas), Barbara Martinez (Kevin Carson), and Angelica Martinez, who were the lights of his life. Additionally, Arthur leaves behind his dear sister, Rosina Lucero, sister-in-law, Alice Martinez, Goddaughter, Elaine Martinez and several nieces and nephews who adored him.
On January 24, 1959, Arthur married the love of his life, Luisa Lopez, in Santiago, Chile. Their union was blessed with 60 beautiful years of companionship, love, and shared adventures. It was in Santiago where Arthur also served in the Army from 1957 to 1959, forging bonds and memories that would last a lifetime.
Arthur's dedication to learning was evident from an early age. After graduating from La Jara High School in 1952, where he excelled in various sports, he pursued higher education at Pueblo Junior College, earning an associate degree. His thirst for knowledge continued at North American College, where he and Luisa both graduated with degrees in electronics.
Professionally, Arthur was a man of many talents. He started his career as a heavy equipment mechanic, owned a John Deer dealership, and later became a sales representative for CanCar, traveling across North America. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to own and operate a car auto parts store, where he was known for his integrity and customer care.
A man of deep faith, Arthur was a devoted member of Annunciation Catholic Church since its early days as a satellite parish in 1959. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him through joyful and challenging times alike.
Arthur had a passion for gardening, finding joy and solace among his flowers and vegetables. Known for his green thumb, he delighted in sharing his bountiful tomato harvest with friends and family. His kindness extended to his neighbors, whom he often helped fix lawn mowers, leaky faucets, or installing water heaters. A gentle soul, Arthur never knew an enemy and was always the first call for his daughters when they needed assistance with their homes or projects.
Pallbearers for Arthur are Patrick Martinez, Steven Martinez, Garrett Martinez, Rodney Lucero, Carty Carson, and Mark Boyer. Honorary pallbearers are Roger Martinez, Roman Martinez, Logan Willis, Feliciano Rivera, and Hector Rivera.
A rosary will be held on July 1st, at French's Mortuary on Lomas at 6 pm. A funeral mass to celebrate Arthur's remarkable life will be held on July 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Annunciation Catholic Church, located at 2621 Vermont, Albuquerque, NM. Arthur’s family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Presbyterian Hospice for their compassionate care and support during his final days.
Arthur Martinez's life was a testament to love, kindness, and service. He will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his legacy of generosity and warmth will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
